Romania Tourism Boom: Foreign Visitors Increase by 23% from Previous Year!
In 2023, Romania saw a 23% increase in foreign tourists compared to 2022. Among the most frequent visitors were tourists from Germany, Italy, Israel, and the UK. In total, the country welcomed 1,837,874 foreign tourists in 2024. Industry experts predict continued growth in tourism, with expectations to surpass 2019 levels, though Schengen inclusion would likely have boosted these numbers even further.
In the first nine months of 2024, Romania saw a 4.2% rise in total tourist numbers to 11.15 million, with foreign visitors making up 16.5% of all arrivals—an increase of 12.8% over the previous year. EU tourists represented 57.6% of international arrivals, spending over 2 million nights in Romania. North American arrivals also rose by 8.2%, while Asian tourist numbers decreased slightly by 0.3%. Tourist spending on overnight stays rose to 24.1 million nights across the country
